Anime Club

Mission/Purpose: To afford students with an interest in the anime culture a chance to meet and share ideas and materials with each other. 

Meetings: Warrior Time, Friday, rm. 712.

Faculty Advisor: Lynn McKibbin (Math Connections) and Shawn Stewart (Team 8B)

Activities:
Activities are primarily student-run with sponsor guidance and supervision.  Students share upcoming events in the anime world such as new games, videos, movies being released and participate in book discussions.  A small library of anime books is kept by members for sharing. Opportunities for students to learn to draw anime will be available.

Academic Bowl

Mission/Purpose: The Academic Team encourages students, knowledgeable in a variety of topics, to compete against other middle school students in a quiz bowl format. Students in 6th through 8th grade are eligible.                                                          
Meetings: Warrior time  Fridays and on Thursday afternoon after school from 3:45 to 4:45 PM.

Faculty Advisor: Jeanne Abraham and Nancy Graham

Activities:  The team attends five competitions (October thru December) with 21 other schools who are members of the Griffin RESA district.

 

Board Game Club

Mission/Purpose: The Board Game Club is an organization for 6th graders in which students use strategy and logic while engaging in competition.

 Meetings: Friday Warrior Time, rms. 606 & 607 & 6th grade pod

Activities: Activities will include trying a variety of strategies while playing chess, checkers, Monopoly, Life, and Scrabble.

Breakfast Club

Mission/Purpose: To afford adolescent, female students the opportunity to meet and share ideas and concerns which are important to this age group.

Meetings: Warrior Time, Fridays, Room 730

Activities: Activities are primarily student run with sponsor guidance and supervision.  Students are given the opportunity to share breakfast while talking about issues such as fashion, cooking, crafts, books, girl drama, boys, school related issues, parents.  Students are given a nurturing environment where they feel safe asking questions that relate to female adolescence.

Builder's Club

Mission/Purpose: Builder's Club is an international student-led organization providing its members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership skills.

Activities: Students will provide gift boxes for U.S. soldiers serving overseas, create cards for residents of Southland Nursing Home, donate food to the animal shelter, provide materials for the repair of some of the elements on the Project Adventure Course, and make improvements to the sand pit at Booth Middle School.

Chess Club

Mission/Purpose: The Chess Club provides a relaxed environment for students to play chess with their peers, as well as the opportunity to learn from each other and participate in tournament practice.

Mondays after school in the media center from 3:45-4:45

Activities: Play chess, learn from each other or from High School BETA club students, learn strategies, practice tournament procedures.

Creative Lesiure Time Club

Mission/Purpose: To expose students to various types of non-electronic indoor leisure activities, that they can engage in individually or with a small group.

Meetings: Warrior Time, Friday, Rooms 733 and 735.

Activities: Activities are primarily student-run with sponsor guidance and supervision.  These activities will help foster the skill to entertain themselves without relying on others.  They will also strengthen creativity, mind-building, and fine motor skills.  Such activities will include, but are not limited to, puzzles, art, and board games.

Drawing Club

Purpose:
The Drawing Club is designed to give prospective young artists many benefits.
Some of these benefits include the following advantages:
1. An outlet for creative expression.
2. An opportunity to take Art Class when it is not available on the student's schedule.
3. Basic instruction in drawing.
4. A chance to get to know students and teachers with similar interests and abilities.

Activities: Contour drawing, Sketching, Shading for value, Line drawing, Still life drawing, Figure drawing, Outdoor nature drawing, Home practice, Seeing examples of genre, and countless other activities.

Enterprise Club

Environmental Club

Mission/Purpose: To encourage awareness of our environment and to facilitate recycling at J.C. Booth Middle School.

Activities: Activities include conducting recycling projects and encouraging awareness of environmental issues.

Farkle Club

Mission/Purpose: to promote positive social interaction through game playing and to enhance strategic thinking.

Activities: Activities are primarily student-run with sponsor guidance and supervision.  Students play Farkle while working on positive social interaction.  Students will use strategy to improve scores. 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

 Mission/Purpose: The FCA is an organization established and run by student athletes interested in developing and demonstrating a commitment to Christianity through Integrity, Serving, Teamwork and Excellence.

Girls Club

Mission/Purpose: Girls Club promotes a healthy, confident, and academically focused image of girlhood.

Meetings: Warrior Time every Friday in the Cafeteria

Activities: Personal Safety, Nutrition, Healthy Body Image, Study Skills, and Healthy Friendships are understood through role playing and small and large group discussions.

Guitar Club

Mission/Purpose:
 The Booth Middle School Club exists to allow students at Booth to play guitar with others and learn basic skills.Certain music selections learned will be performed in an end of the year concert.

Habitudes Club

Mission/Purpose:
To teach students the importance of positive habits and attitudes that will allow for overall growth in the realm of character and leadership skills.

Activities: The concept is based around images that form leadership habits and attitudes to achieve success in life.  Students reflect on images and reflect on their personal life and how they can achieve.  Also, students use various activities to create an environment for discussion of everyday difficulties and challenges.

 

Home Ec Club

Mission/Purpose:
Students learn basic kitchen safety and cooking techniques to prepare food items.  The food items are sold to raise money for Partnership Walk and Relay for Life.

Activities:
Activities are primarily student-run with sponsor guidance and supervision. Cooking and baking are the main activities in our club.  Students learn to follow directions, work as a team, follow kitchen safety as well as learn how important it is to help others in our community.

International Club

Mission/Purpose: The International Club has been formed to facilitate the understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultures in this community.

Meetings: Friday  Warrior Time, room 804.

Faculty advisor: Dr. Mary Ann P. Browning

Activities: Members of the club will have guest speakers, share ethnic food and crafts, and gain a better perspective of the cultural attributes of many nations.  The students will share games, postage stamps, photographs, and coins from all over the world. Members of the organization will also share multi-cultural awareness and appreciation with the student body of J. C. Booth Middle School.  If there is sufficient interest and support among the members, there may be field trips to special events in the vicinity. If there is sufficient support, they can publish a cookbook and/or sponsor multi-cultural celebrations at Booth.

Jazz Band

Mission/Purpose: This band is for students with an advanced playing ability on their instrument that wish to explore and perform different genres of jazz.

Activities: We plan to perform for the school at Christmas, Christmas Concert, Spring Concert and will be performing at other venues during the school year.

Junior Beta Club

 Mission/Purpose: Beta Club is an academic leadership organization living by the motto, "let us lead by serving others." Invitation is based on semester averages in all subject areas of 90 or above as well as upstanding character. Members are invited twice yearly.

Meetings: General membership meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:45 AM in the Media Center. Officer meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 7:45 AM in Ms. Roth’s room.

Activities: Activities include fund raising, collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries, and winter clothing, acting as teacher helpers and peer tutors. Members also perform other community service activities and earn service hours.

The Learning Games Club is an organization in which students use strategy and logic while engaging in competitive games.


Media Center Helpers Club

Mission/Purpose:
Students will learn about the general operation and maintenance of an active and vigorous Middle School Media Center.  They will be given opportunities to perform a variety of different library tasks. Students will work with the Media Staff and with other students participating in the club.

Activities:
Students will perform simple but important library tasks.  Students will be divided into working groups that shelve books, help to process books, deliver laminating, and move and organize materials.  Students will also be involved in helping the Media Staff to implement large changes such as replacing date due slips in all the library books.


Millionaire Reading Club

Mission/Purpose:
To afford students the opportunity to engage in silent sustained reading and to aid them in achieving the state-wide initiative of reading 25 books per year (with the idea that students who achieve this goal have been exposed to a million words), as well as the opportunity for independent and small group study/review of curriculum material including lexicon and stem vocabulary.

Orff Club

Mission/Purpose: To afford students with an interest in percussion instruments  a chance to meet and play Orff instruments.

Meetings: Warrior Time, Friday, rm. 239.

Activities: Activities include playing instruments, reading music, and working together to make an ensemble.  Students will learn names of instruments and how to play them.  They will practice individually and together as a team.  Students will help one another to solve technique problems.


Outdoor Leadership Club

Mission/Purpose:  Outdoor Leadership Club available strictly to 8th grade students taking the class Project Adventure to the next level.  Students will take on a larger role in the club by demonstrating and exercising leadership skills on their peers.

Activities: 8th grade students will be asked to choose games, high elements, and possibly excursions of their interest guiding their peers through trials and obstacles.  Students will be expected to lead club members reinforcing rules and leadership techniques to help the group reach a common goal.  Each leader will assess the group they led while also assessed by their peers on their communication, positive outlook and team work.  Furthermore, Outdoor Leadership Club will help students grow and mature as an individual and group. Peer Helpers

Mission/Purpose: The Peer Helper Program provides our students many opportunities to work together to enrich the lives of others. Students apply for membership and are selected based on interviews and the application.

Meetings:
Members will meet periodically for training and support.  Members work individually and in small groups during Warrior Time and as called on.

Activities:
The three major facets of the program include our Ambassador Program, J.C. Booth Warrior Blazers; our Peer Tutoring Program, involving Beta Club Student; and our Peer Mediation Program which provides students with more positive methods of resolving conflict.

Mission/Purpose: To provide an opportunity for 7th grade  students to receive assistance in successfully meeting their reading and academic goals.

Science Olympiad

Mission/Purpose: The purpose is to advance and develop science education offering a competitive science program to interested students.  Mentoring for students in various disciplines will be organized, and competition dates will be set with the Georgia Science Olympiad Organization.

Meetings:
Meets daily before and after school in room 741.

Spanish Club

Mission/Purpose: The mission of the Spanish Club is to promote the learning of the Spanish language and to foster an appreciation for and understanding of Hispanic culture.

Meetings: Friday  Warrior Time,  rm 803.  Occasionally activities will be planned for after school.

Activities: Students will be learning basic Spanish phrases by watching videos and working with students who are in the Spanish I class. We will celebrate Hispanic holidays such as Day of the Dead, Christmas, Cinco de Mayo. We will have at least one movie afternoon. We will be learning some Latin dances and may have a dance contest.
 

Soccer Club

Mission/Purpose:  The Soccer Club creates an opportunity for students to learn the rules of soccer and to play soccer.

Activities:  Playing soccer, kicking ball, passing ball, general soccer skills, scrimmaging, competitive game formats, discussions, sports videos and other indoor activities if inclement weather. 


Spirit Club

Mission/Purpose: The purpose of the Spirit Club is to work together to improve the spirit of the school body and to provide a forum for students who want to support the school’s competitive teams outside of cheer leaders & pep band.

Student Council

Mission/Purpose: Student Council, through its elected members and officers, represents the student body as part of the school governance.

Members develop student leadership skills through service to the school and the community.



Trail to Eagle Club

Mission/Purpose: The mission of the Trail to Eagle Club is to support Boy Scout of America (B.S.A.) ideals while sustaining rank advancement, learning Scouting skills and performing community service. The Trail to Eagle Club is open to all students.

Activities: Activities are centered in B.S.A. troop organization that places members in patrols. The troop and the patrols have a leadership organization. Through the troop and patrol activities are conducted, skills taught and service performed. As part of the club an Honor Guard is organized to raise and lower the school flags. A concluding activity such as but not limited to a campout or field trip is conducted near the end of the year.



Weight Lifting Club

Mission/Purpose:  To teach students fitness training concepts that will enhance overall wellness of the students.

Meetings:
Before school at 7:30 - 8:10, Wednesdays and Fridays, weight room.

Activities:
strength training, endurance training, speed training, and flexibility training.



Yearbook

Mission/Purpose: Yearbook Club is open to al self-motivated Booth students who are interested in photography, layouts, and journalism. Students should have basic computer knowledge and be willing to work on pages before and after school on a consistent basis.

Activities:
Activities will include taking pictures, scanning photos, indexing photos, creating page layouts, and creating feature stories. Members will be required to meet before and after school on a regular basis in order to meet deadlines.



6A Reading / Study Club

Mission/Purpose:  To provide an opportunity for 6A students to receive assistance in successfully meeting their reading and academic goals.

Activities: Teacher directed activities are used to help students process and master content material.  Activities may include drills, games, competitions, and other hands on activities




6B Reading Club

7th Grade Game Club

Mission/Purpose: The 7th Grade Game Club is an opportunity for students to enjoy enhancing their problem solving skills and concentration as they participate in a variety of games.

Meetings: Warrior Time, Friday, rm. 750.

Activities: The students work cooperatively to discover strategies and patterns to solve games.  Some of the games students may choose to play include:  Scrabble, Bananagrams, Mastermind, Othello, Backgammon, UpWords, Boggle, Battleship, Chess, Checkers, and Uno.


7B Reading Club

Mission/Purpose: To afford students with the opportunity to engage in conversation with their peers allowing for them to practice social skills relevant to real life situations. It will provide students with a chance to share ideas and opinions that are of interest to them in their everyday world.

8C Math Support Club

Mission/Purpose: The purpose is to provide any extra math help for any student on the team.  Is will also serve students who are out sick so that I can get them caught up.
